Student accommodation Berlin
Student accommodation in Berlin is a numbers problem: more than 180,000 students share roughly 10,000 subsidised dormitory places. The maths does not work, and the waiting list of the Studierendenwerk is measured in semesters, not weeks. If you arrive in October, your place may come in spring.
STACEY fills that gap, or your whole degree. Two houses, both central: STACEY Mitte on the Fischerinsel between Museum Island and Alexanderplatz, STACEY Moabit on Stromstraße with 60 rooms and a garden. Every room is private and fully furnished; you share the kitchen with one or two other rooms, never with a whole floor.
Everything runs in English: the website, the lease, the contract, the community. Booking takes about ten minutes online, and you move in with a digital key. No Schufa credit report, no German guarantor, no furniture to buy.
Each location page shows real move-in dates. If a room is free, you can move in the same week.
The lease, the booking flow, the house rules and the community are in English. More than half of our members come from outside Germany, so nobody has to fight through German paperwork alone.
We ask for neither a German credit report nor a parental guarantee, which are the two things most private landlords in Berlin insist on. Instead there is a security payment of two months' rent, returned in full after you leave.
You get the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung before you move in, so you can register your address at any Bürgeramt. Without it there is no tax ID, no bank account, and some universities will not complete your enrolment.
A Studierendenwerk dormitory is publicly subsidised and costs noticeably less than we do. If you can wait and you get a place, take it. STACEY is privately financed, which is why the room is available now, furnished, with internet, electricity and cleaning in one rate. Many of our members stay a semester until their dormitory place comes through. Others stay until they graduate.
No. Dormitories run by the Studierendenwerk Berlin are publicly subsidised and cheaper, but they come with waiting lists of several semesters. STACEY is a private provider of furnished living: available now, almost everything included, at market price. The two are not mutually exclusive, and many members live with us until a dormitory place frees up.
No. Our members are students, interns, doctoral candidates and young professionals between 20 and 40. You do not need proof of enrolment or a university place.
From the Fischerinsel it is about ten minutes by U-Bahn to Humboldt University and just under twenty to TU Berlin. From Stromstraße in Moabit, TU is similar via the U9. Freie Universität in Dahlem takes around 35 minutes from either house. The Deutschlandticket covers all local transport on one monthly subscription.
Yes, and most of our members do. The whole process is online: choose a room, sign the lease digitally, pay the booking fee and the security payment by card or transfer. You receive the digital key before you land.
Three months. After that the lease is open-ended with three months' notice, so you are not forced to move at the end of a semester and you do not renegotiate anything to stay longer.
