Student accommodation Hamburg

Student accommodation in Hamburg, without detours

Student accommodation in Hamburg is scarce by the numbers: the Studierendenwerk runs around 4,400 dormitory rooms for more than 100,000 students. Applications in summer typically wait several semesters, and what remains at the start of term sits far out in Wandsbek or Harburg.

STACEY has four houses, all well inside the city: Mühlenkamp in Winterhude by the canal, Eppendorf among the white townhouses, Eimsbüttel quiet and green, St. Pauli in the middle of everything. Every room is private and fully furnished, and the common areas are generous, over 150 square metres in Winterhude with two kitchens and a coworking zone.

Everything runs in English: lease, booking, house rules, community. Booking takes about ten minutes, and you move in with a digital key. No Schufa credit report, no German guarantor.

What that means for you

No waiting list

Each location page shows real move-in dates. If a room is free, you can move in the same week.

Getting to campus

From Eppendorf and Eimsbüttel, Universität Hamburg at Von-Melle-Park is about 15 minutes and HAW at Berliner Tor about 25. Winterhude and St. Pauli are roughly 20 minutes from the main campus. TU Hamburg in Harburg is a good 40 minutes from any of our houses, which is worth knowing before you book.

No Schufa, no guarantor

Neither a German credit report nor a parental guarantee. Instead a security payment of two months' rent, returned in full after you leave.

Address registration included

You get the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung before you move in, so you can register at the Bezirksamt and obtain a tax ID and a bank account.

Honestly: we are not a student dormitory

A Studierendenwerk dormitory is publicly subsidised and costs less than we do. If you can wait for a place, take it. We are privately financed, which is why a room is available now, furnished, with everything in one rate. And our houses differ in size: in Eppendorf or Winterhude you share a flat with two to four people, in St. Pauli it can be seven. Check the house, not just the price.

Fragen zu Student accommodation in Hamburg, beantwortet

Is STACEY official student accommodation?+

No. Dormitories run by the Studierendenwerk Hamburg are publicly subsidised and cheaper, with waiting lists of several semesters. STACEY is a private provider of furnished living: available now, almost everything included, at market price. Many members stay with us until a dormitory place frees up.

Which house is closest to my university?+

For Universität Hamburg and HAW, Eppendorf and Eimsbüttel are the shortest commutes, both around 15 minutes by U-Bahn. Winterhude is a little further but sits by the water. St. Pauli is well connected and liveliest in the evening. TU Hamburg in Harburg is far from all four houses.

How many people share a flat?+

It depends on the house: two to four rooms per flat in Winterhude, three to four in Eppendorf, four in Eimsbüttel, up to seven in St. Pauli. Each location page states the number for that house, so you know before you book.

Is Hamburg expensive compared to Berlin?+

Rents are broadly similar, sometimes a little higher in the central districts, but the city is smaller so commutes are shorter. What really differs is the market: Hamburg has fewer new arrivals competing for each room, which is why we can usually offer a move-in date within days rather than weeks.

Can I stay through the summer break?+

Yes. The lease is open-ended rather than tied to a semester, so you keep the room over the summer instead of moving out and searching again in autumn. Minimum stay is three months, notice period three months.
